<back The Recurring Landmark:1 Panel 4 next>

Panel 4: Based on an image from a wall by the railway lines next to Riesaer Strasse, Dresden.

Acrylic, oil, pastel and graphite on wood panel. 60cms x 60cms x 5cms. June 2013

While the reference to the 'trident' symbol in panel 3 was in a sense 'at home', being in India, this one was found in a slightly more incongruous location.

Most of the surrounding graffiti was the usual (and to my mind), rather tedious 'tagging', which seems to have taken on an almost mindless 'conformity of style' across the planet.*

But this piece stood apart as a distinctive if slightly forlorn 'voice'. A mantle only emphasized by it's location, on a rather damp and nondescript street by the railway lines in a northern suburb of Dresden.

*Tagging: a curious relationship.
'Rebellious individuality and social defiance'... demonstrated by displaying almost homogenous 'conformity' and repetition..

A sign of 'rebellious solidarity'? - with no actual agenda... or a measure of capitalism's power to absorb 'dissent'?
